Abstract
A variety of social-psychological factors may influence people’s tendency to escalate commitment to a failing course of action. Three such factors were discussed in the preceding chapter: the nature of the opponent, the presence of models, and the effect of group decision making. This chapter is concerned with yet another fundamental social determinant of entrapment—the need to save face.
