Abstract
Coweeta, according to some, means little star. Actually, the meaning of the Cherokee word is unknown, but Coweeta was certainly a lucky star for forest hydrology. The hydrological laboratory was born at a favorable place at a fortunate time and despite trials and tribulations, the lucky star still shines brightly. Coweeta may actually be a Creek rather than Cherokee word meaning “War Town.”.1 Certainly a lot of luck was involved, and sometimes battles were fought to keep the little star shining.
