Experimental Aspects and Metrological Applications

  • Chapter
The Quantum Hall Effect

Part of the book series: Graduate Texts in Contemporary Physics ((MSBL))

Abstract

The quantum Hall effect provides an unparalleled opportunity to study and utilize the physical properties of macroscopic, two-dimensional electron or hole systems in the presence of strong magnetic fields. These studies are revealing surprising results that are of particular interest to the disciplines of condensed matter physics and electrical metrology. This chapter discusses some experimental observations and metrological applications of the integer Hall effect.
