Abstract
The term “organic solvent” is derived from the basic chemical structure of hydrocarbons of the aliphatic, aromatic, and halogenated forms. Because many of these hydrocarbons are volatile, the route of administration is typically by inhalation as a volatile gas or aerosol through the nose or mouth. The volatile solvents and aerosols are subject to significant liability for abuse and addiction as well as toxicity.
