Abstract
It’s the third day of July 1908, and over in London the international athletes are already arriving for the Fourth Olympic Games, which are to commence in just ten days. It will be a British triumph. Only three days ago, in Switzerland, one female and three male balloonists successfully traversed the Alps for the first time, having attained a head-spinning altitude of almost 6000 meters. The great Russian composer Rimsky-Korsakov died a week and a half ago; three days later, former U.S. President Grover Cleveland passed away. And this very week the American Wilbur Wright is flaunting before astounded crowds in Europe his new improved “flying machine.”
