Abstract
A number of surgical procedures have been devised to relieve the excruciating pain of trigeminal neuralgia. They usually are reserved for patients who have failed to respond to medical therapy at an acceptable level of side effects. The procedures that can be employed are either destructive procedures that involve destruction of a portion of the trigeminal system, or nondestructive procedures that, in practical terms, refer only to the Jannetta microvascular decompressive operation.
