Abstract
In 1958 at the University of Chicago, Paul Halmos taught a course in general topology using Kelley’s book of the same name. It was the first math course that I really enjoyed and worked for; it was partly Halmos’s teaching and partly those wonderful problems in Kelley’s book, e.g., the long one on the Cantor set. Furthermore, the course got me started in the direction of geometric topology.
