Fungal Sinusitis

Pathogenesis and Treatment

  • Chapter
Diseases of the Sinuses

Abstract

Fungi resemble cave dwellers. They inhabit dark, warm, moist enclosed spaces. Fungi may enter and occupy any human body orifice, and given sufficient nutrients, will proliferate usually in concentric rings until the space is completely occupied. Fungal otitis, rhinitis, vaginitis, pharyngitis, proctitis, enteritis, bronchitis, and paranasal sinusitis have all been described.
