Abstract
In this chapter, the previous chapters are summarized, followed by a discussion on steps to be taken in the future. First, the previous chapters are summarized into the following issues: consideration of concept generation (Chaps. 2–5), findings and inferences from the experiments and simulation (Chaps. 5–8), new research methods for concept generation (Chaps. 6 and 7), and the practice of concept generation (Chaps. 9–11). Next, a complete discussion is attempted on the basis of three themes: (1) what are the inner criteria? (2) what is an ideal in concept generation? and (3) how should the very early stage of design be investigated? Finally, some general perspectives towards the future of concept generation are suggested.
