Abstract
The increasing availability of inexpensive portable ultrasound systems with a wide range of hardware and software options has allowed their widespread use in urology. To optimize the image, increase the diagnostic confidence of the operator, and minimize interpretive errors, it is necessary to understand the basic physics and technology underpinning these systems.
