Abstract

The principal indications for labelling red cells with a radioactive tracer are to:

  • measure the volume of erythrocytes in the circulation

  • measure their life span

  • image their distribution in order to detect sequestration or extravasation (page 189)

  • measure cardiac output and other parameters of ventricular function (page 134)

  • calculate blood flow (page 230).
