Abstract
Imaging regional myocardial perfusion, to distinguish between jeopardized myocardium, infarct and healthy muscle, is currently the most important cardiac investigation employing radioisotopes. There are other techniques with less common or less well established clinical applications which display infarcts, wall motion, ventricular function, fatty acid metabolism and adrenoreceptor activity locally or globally. It is possible to demonstrate flow patterns in some congenital defects. There are useful but less often used non-imaging methods for measuring global ventricular function and shunt size.
