Abstract

Nuclear Medicine has been defined as ‘the medical speciality that utilises the nuclear properties of radioactive and stable nuclides to make diagnostic evaluations of anatomical or physiological conditions of the body and to provide therapy with unsealed radioactive sources’ (Board of Trustees of the Society of Nuclear Medicine, 1983). These impinge on almost every branch of medical practice. It is this combination of breadth of clinical application with so many branches of the basic sciences including physics, inorganic chemistry, biochemistry, physiology and computer sciences which makes this such a challenging field.
