Abstract

The Bergen Project was basically a developmental study of individual children with severe school learning disabilities. It emphasized individual research for two major reasons:

  1. 1.

On the basis of individual case studies and diagnoses, we designed what in our opinion would be the best possible program of treatment and instruction for each child.

  2. 2.

We assumed that the children would exhibit varied patterns of educational development, and that collection of individual data would facilitate explaining some of the factors involved in these differing patterns.
