Watching Earth from Space

Abstract

Satellite navigation (satnav) allows the world to know where you are – right? While traveling in a car (you wouldn’t do this if you were the driver, of course), you call from your cell phone to get traffic information and the service tailors the response to where you are – because satnav has told them your location. You fire up the mapping service on your BlackBerry or iPhone and the service downloads the maps just for the area where you are. You use your iPhone to check where your friends are – so it’s not just you that is being tracked. It seems as if those satellites in outer space are keeping track of where you are. They seem to be watching you.
