Abstract

In late 2008, Google introduced its Clean Energy 2030 plan. It outlined a “potential path to weaning the U.S. off coal and oil for electricity generation by 2030 … and cutting oil use for cars by 44%.” This chapter provides an overview of Google’s plan, and a rationale as to why a company that is generally known as a leader in Internet and information technology is weighing in on this national debate and commentary.
