Abstract

In this chapter, we get started with the hands-on aspects of our Web Standardistas’ journey. First, we introduce you to HTML, the language that underpins the World Wide Web. We then build a few basic web pages to give you an understanding of how they are constructed and to introduce you to some fundamental concepts. This will form the cornerstone of the rest of the book, so we spend some time with you working though this systematically to ensure you have grasped a solid understanding of the principles of HTML and XHTML before moving on.
