Abstract

Prior to Flash Player 9, Flash developers had to rely on third-party applications to create equalizer-type displays or audio visualizers. Now, thanks to improvements to the ActionScript language, you can create these experience enhancers natively. Combine that with the relative ease of use of the Flex framework, and you can come up with some pretty amazing visualizations with minimal effort. But before getting into exactly how to create one, I’ll show you how the landscape has changed from ActionScript 2 to ActionScript 3.
