Abstract

Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) developed with Flex differ considerably from classic web applications developed with XHTML and server-side languages (such as ColdFusion, PHP, JSP, or Ruby on Rails) because they can reload small amounts of data without having to reload the entire page (for example, if a user adds an item to a shopping basket and a price update is required). The same approach is used by Ajax applications.
