Abstract
In this study, we report on a novel method for in-situ observation of cell growth using surface infrared spectroscopy. Human breast cell line MCF-7 cells were cultured on small Si prisms and monitored using infrared absorption spectroscopy in the geometry of multiple internal reflections (MIR-IRAS). Infrared spectra of cultured MCF-7 cells on Si prisms were collected for 300 min. The growth of MCF-7 cells was monitored by observing changes in the well-known “amide II” protein absorption band at 1,545 cm−1.
