Decision Support System for Evaluation of Treatment Train for Removal of Micropollutants

Methods and Techniques for Cleaning-up Contaminated Sites

European Water Framework Directive (WDF) aims to achieve and maintain European water bodies in “good status”. Micropollutants such as pesticides, surfactants, preservatives, solvents, fragrances, flavors and pharmaceuticals as well as endocrine disruptors are of rising concern in the urban water cycle. With the growing number of efficient and innovative treatment processes, evaluation and selection of the appropriate configuration of treatment processes is a challenging task. A process simulation model has been developed to allow a range of design possibilities for removal of micropollutants to be evaluated. The model includes a computational module for wastewater treatment trains, a database and an optimization engine.
