Abstract
Accumulation of copper, cadmium, iron, magnesium and zinc was studied in Capsicum Solanaceae plant (red pepper). A population of Capsicum Solanaceae from one urban site (Constanta city, Romania) was used to assess whether the five co-accumulated metals have a similar or different distribution in the plant. Metals accumulation in red pepper was quantified by flame atomic absorbtion spectrometry (FAAS). Analyses were performed after the chemical mineralization of the samples with nitrogen acid and hydrogen peroxide in a Digesthal device. Mn as well as Fe and Zn are preferentially accumulated in the roots, which exhibit higher concentrations than the other organs of Capsicum Solanaceae plant and Cu in plant’s leaves. The accumulation of studied metals in red pepper varied according to the organ and the development stage of the plant.
