Polynomistic Determination of Biological Processes

  • Chapter
Studies in the Philosophy of Biology

Abstract

Investigations of biological processes ultimately lead not only to problems of chemistry and physics but also to epistemology. A wealth of very heterogeneous questions is therefore involved. If one tries to treat these problems in a brief lecture, the danger of misunderstanding is very great inasmuch as everybody disposes of another realm of scientific and philosophical knowledge. This will probably render a discussion of the following comments rather difficult. (For more detailed statements, cf. Rensch (1971).)
