Abstract
The use of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging is rapidly increasing in clinical practice. At the same time research continues into the risks of exposure to magnetic fields and guidelines are continually being updated. There are specific equipment, monitoring and safety considerations for a critically ill patient in the MR environment. These differ from other areas of the radiology suite. Practical steps should be taken to minimise the risks to both the patient and to staff.
