Abstract

Queen Elizabeth II officially inaugurated London’s Millennium Footbridge on 9 May 2000. The bridge crosses the River Thames, connecting St Paul’s Cathedral with the Tate Modern art gallery. Aesthetic design requirements called for a particularly low height profile, and the resulting design was the suspension bridge shown in Figure 1.1.
