Abstract
A 20-year-old male was tackled on his left side during a game of rugby. He presented 12 h later (after celebrations in a nearby hostelry) complaining of pain in the left upper quadrant. On examination he was tender on palpation of the left upper quadrant. Blood pressure, pulse and haemoglobin were normal. There was no haematuria. MDCT of the abdomen and pelvis was performed (Images 1–3 – axials through the upper abdomen).
