The Cytoskeleton

  • Chapter
The Growing Fungus

Abstract

In this chapter we shall investigate current concepts of the structure and functions of the fungal cytoskeleton, drawing on the available information from both filamentous and yeast species, there being no reason to believe that there are fundamental differences in cellular architecture between these two growth forms. The zoosporic fungi will be included, as will the Oomycetes, which, although more closely related to some algae, show the hyphal growth form and are commonly discussed in mycology courses.
