Abstract
Students choose to pursue a graduate degree in food science for many reasons. These may include: a means of entry into food science, future job requirements, or expansion of food science knowledge. Regardless of reason, the chosen graduate program should provide the student with the skills necessary to meet his or her goals. If the goal is to obtain a specific career, the program should be selected and tailored to fit the needs of that job. Or, the student may wish to develop a greater understanding of a particular area of food science, and thus develop an expertise. Additionally, many students will choose to pursue a graduate degree in food science after obtaining a completely different undergraduate degree and the graduate program will include the fundamentals of the science.
