Laser shock processing is a relatively novel process of surface modifications of materials. The surface modification is based on the generation of shock waves when the material is irradiated with laser radiation. Recently, significant interests have been attracted toward modifying the material surfaces to improve the fatigue and corrosion properties using laser shock processing. This chapter provides a very brief overview of the process principles, process parameters, and applications.
