Abstract
In previous chapters of this book we used various standard functions, called elementary functions, to provide examples of the concepts under discussion. These functions are familiar to the reader from precalculus and calculus courses, and are found in many applications of mathematics. We are now in a position to give a rigorous treatment of the elementary functions we have been using.
