Abstract
IN 2005, the Hubble Space Telescope was called into service for making a remarkably diverse assortment of observations of the universe. Beside peering at the most distant galaxies in the universe, it looked much closer to home by prospecting for resources on the Moon; intently watching the collision of a comet and a manmade object; finding more moons around Uranus and Pluto. In between these extremes of nearest and farthest objects in the universe, Hubble probed the secrets to the birth of extrasolar planets; the largest stars in the galaxy; and stars swirling around a nearby supermassive black hole.
