Abstract
In Hong Kong, a cumulative total of 2116 HIV infections were reported as of the end of June 2003. On a yearly basis, about 200 cases have been reported under the voluntary reporting mechanism to the Department of Health. Through an analysis of the available epidemiological information, it was estimated that in 1999, HIV infections in Hong Kong ranged between 2000 and 3000, (based on revised projections of HIV infection and AIDS cases in Hong Kong by Professor James Chin, www.aids.gov.hk), a figure supported by results of seroprevalence studies.
