Abstract

Experimental traumatic brain injury (cryogenic brain injury) was produced by application of a metal probe cooled with dry ice to the dura of the right parietal region in male Wistar rats and cats. Detection of superoxide radicals was performed by nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) method by a cranial bone window technique [4]. Cryogenic brain injury demonstrated overproduction of superoxide radicals which was shown by the deposition of reduced NBT in the injured parietal region [5].
