Abstract

Dresden was once considered the Baroque capital of Germany and the Florence on the Elbe - until one fateful night in 1945 when the Allies bombed the city to rubble. It is slowly but surely being rebuilt and restored. The synagogue is located close to the historic centre of Dresden, on the south bank of the River Elbe. On arrival in the city centre head for the old town and the river. As you arrive at the river’s edge you will see the panorama of the historic old town on the opposite bank. The new synagogue is an unmistakable silhouette to the east of the Bruehlsche Terrasse.
