Abstract

Metal-cored wires and flux-cored wires for GMAW of different Nbcontents have been tested concerning their hot cracking susceptibility. Using tensile test specimens and the PVR-test, an optimum content could be found, to cause low hot cracking susceptibility comparable to other welding consumables on the market. This improvement was due to the formation of NbC and by keeping the basicity index at a definite value, whereby the required mechanical-technological values could be fulfilled.
