Abstrait
La théorie des ensembles, élaborée par Georg Cantor dans la seconde moitié du 19e siècle, a profondément transformé les mathématiques. Les mathématiques modernes sont inconcevables sans le concept d’ensemble, et, comme l’a affirmé David Hilbert: «Personne ne nous chassera du paradis (de la théorie des ensembles) que Cantor a créé pour nous».
