Abstract

In Chapter 5 we introduced the concept of a discrete random variable as a mapping from the sample space S = {si} to a countable set of real numbers (either finite or countably infinite) via a mapping X(si)‘ In effect, the mapping yields useful numerical information about the outcome of the random phenomenon. In some instances, however, we would like to measure more than just one attribute of the outcome.
