Abstract

Microwave limb sounding is a well established technique for the observation of stratospheric trace gas species and is also receiving growing attention as a technique for the observation of tropospheric trace gas species. The article introduces the most important past and future instruments of this type, as well as some basics of the technique. A comprehensive list of references will make it possible for the interested reader to obtain more detailed information, both on microwave limb sounding in general and on the instruments discussed.
