Abstract

Aberrant pancreas, or pancreatic heterotopia, refers to pancreatic tissue without anatomic, vascular or neurogenic connections with the main gland (Ashikari et al. 1967; Gaspar Fuentes et al. 1973). Despite their heterotopic character, these intramural lesions are included in the part on benign tumors because of their frequency and neoplastic radiographic appearance. Furthermore, a small percentage of these lesions undergo malignant degeneration comparable to that which can be observed in the pancreas itself.
