Dynamic Cardiomyoplasty to Improve Ventricular Function

  • Conference paper
Assisted Circulation 3

Abstract

Autologous electrostimulated latissimus dorsi muscle (LDM) may be used to assist myocardial contraction in order to prolong and improve the quality of life in patients with severe congestive heart failure refractory to adequate pharmacological support. This is not applied to patients in the last stage. Significant and consistent improvement of ventricular function and functional circulatory capacity have been demonstrated experimentally and clinically using the cardiomyoplasty procedure [1,2].
