Zusammenfassung

Polymorphkernige neutrophile Granulozyten (PMN) sind kurzlebige, teilungsunfähige Zellen des Blutes, die bei bestimmten Entzündungsformen innerhalb weniger Stunden in das Gewebe einwandern. Dieser Vorgang ist in zweierlei Hinsicht von grundlegender Bedeutung: er dient einerseits der Abwehr und Vernichtung von eingedrungenen Erregern, zum anderen der Beseitigung schädigender Substanzen und Partikel (z.B. Immunkomplexen, Fremdkörpern, nekrotisierendem Gewebe, auch Mediatoren).
