Electrochemistry and Electrochemical Catalysis in Microemulsions

  • Chapter
Modern Aspects of Electrochemistry

Part of the book series: Modern Aspects of Electrochemistry ((MAOE,volume 26))

Abstract

In this chapter, the possibility of conducting electrochemical and electrocatalytic reactions by using microemulsions and the types of processes that are thereby involved are reviewed. An account is given of the considerable volume of work that has already been accomplished in this field. In a general sense, microemulsions, coupled with electrode interfacial processes, allow a kind of localized “phase transfer” of reactants, intermediates and products, often with advantageous results and useful applications.
