Abstract
In the colposcopy clinic histological sections of cervical biopsies can be prepared rapidly by the freezing method and diagnosed immediately. Treatment (by laser, cold coagulator or cryocautery) can then be chosen rationally and completed at the same visit. By the paraffin method the extended processing entails discharging the patient, awaiting diagnosis, and recalling her for treatment often some weeks later. Immediate frozen section thus spares the patient considerable and prolonged anxiety.
