Estratto
Un difetto del setto interatriale (DIA) è una comunicazione diretta tra le cavità atriali che permette il passaggio di sangue (shunt). Nel cuore normale, il setto interatriale vero è compreso tra i bordi della fossa ovale, e la maggior parte del tessuto rimanente che separa le cavità atriali è composta da un ripiegamento della parete atriale. La morfologia dei vari tipi di difetti interatriali è illustrata nella Figura 8.1.
