Abstract
An abundant and taxonomically diverse ostracode assemblage has been revealed by studying the key section of the terminal Upper Permian strata of the Russian Platform. In addition to taxa already known from this stratigraphic level, the assemblage contains many species of the genera Volganella and Unzhiella (superfamily Volganelloidea), including six previously known and four new species. The outburst of speciation at the final stage of Permian history (prior to extinction) looks unusual and unique.
