Key points

  • Be aware of the different types of indemnity and how they work.

  • Make sure, as a practice owner, that you have indemnity that will deal with vicarious liability and NDDC claims.

  • Make sure that, if you run your practice as a limited company, you have indemnity or insurance that cover claims made against the corporate entity, as well as against you as an individual.

  • Make sure that the organisation that you choose to provide you with professional indemnity has an experienced team of dentally qualified advisers who provide advice and case management services for you. Not all indemnity providers have experienced dentolegal colleagues on the front line of the assistance being provided.
