Abstract

Inactivation of the von Hippel–Lindau (VHL) tumour-suppressor protein (pVHL) is associated with the von Hippel–Lindau cancer syndrome and the majority of kidney cancers. New evidence suggests that pVHL has properties of an F-box protein that targets the α-subunits of hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1 for oxygen-dependent ubiquitination.
