Abstract

IT has been reported that cytochalasin B (CB) inhibits a cell-cycle-dependent step of Kirsten murine sarcoma–leukaemia virus maturation1. As CB inhibits hexose transport and acts on contractile elements2, the inhibition of virus maturation could be due to a hexose deficiency, the disruption of microfilaments, or some combination of the two effects. Because cytochalasin D (CD) seems to have only one effect, the disruption of microfilaments3–6, we used it here to study the role of microfilament organisation in the production of Moloney murine leukaemia virus (MLV). We report that actin and MLV structural proteins co-migrate in infected cells after CD treatment.
