Abstract
IMMUNISATION of mice with cross-reacting rat erythrocytes results in the development of autoimmune haemolytic anaemia, as indicated by haematological studies and erythrocyte autoantibodies1,2. However, the disease is self-limiting in normal mouse strains, and we present here evidence for the activity of a suppressor T cell which specifically controls the autoantibody component of the response, while leaving the heteroantibody component unaffected.
