Nuclease that preferentially inactivates DNA containing mismatched bases

Abstract

Heteroduplex and homoduplex DNA molecules of bacteriophage SPP1 were treated with DNase I, an enzyme of Ustilago maydis implicated in genetic recombination. A transfection assay with Bacillus subtilis demonstrates that the heteroduplexes are preferentially inactivated.
